Born in 1987 in Tongren, China, graduated from the ENSP in 2018, Jiayun Deng Jiayun Deng explores the role of photography in the construction of the spectacular. She questions the way in which what is real seems to be gradually replaced by an all encompassing and totalizing hyper-reality. Caught in this setting, we lack the distance to understand or even imagine this omnipresence of the simulacrum.
In photographing contemporary China, Jiayun Deng employs photography as a tool for critique. It enables her to distance herself from the spectacular dimension and to better grasp the forces at work in the construction of reality.
She now lives and works between Paris and Tongren.
